The Rock School Singing To Support Music Therapy

November 20, 2012 – Brampton, Ontario

Christmas Album: “The Rock School Christmas 2012”
“Music therapy is the use of music to promote, maintain and restore psychological, physical, emotional and
spiritual health,” says Alicia Leon, SickKids Foundation.
The Rock School’s Co-owner Andrea Gavrilovic has always shared her experience and admiration about
The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) with students and their families, only to realize that there are
many families that share their own touching stories and experiences at this amazing hospital. “I love
Christmas and I’m passionate about music,” says Andrea, “I wanted to use music as a tool to give a gift
back to SickKids.”
A joint effort from The Rock School’s Teachers, Students and guest musicians was made over the past 6
months to arrange, practice, record, produce and mix traditional Christmas songs to create “The Rock
School Christmas Album 2012”. A short-run of CD’s will be sold at The Rock School and it will also be
available for purchase on-line through Itunes. Proceeds from album sales will go to SickKids to support
music therapy within the Creative Arts Therapy Program. A personal donation page has also been set up on
the SickKids fundraising website where tax receipts will be issued accordingly.

Jam With A Cause - A Joyful Night

The power of music changes life! Music happens in relationship. Studies show music has a powerful, biological influence on us. It heightens cognitive skills and has lasting effects on brain function for a lifetime. (Nina Kraus Ph.D. - Neuroscience at NorthWestern University.)

HGNO's mandate is to create mandates that help children, youth and young adult participants explore and discover their musical gift through training and experiences in composition, recording and performance.

We would like you to join us for an evening of live music and to consider giving to the cause as we continue to reach out into the community and make a difference in the development of participants who are young and possibly marginalized, yet energetic to explore music.

Be Joyful on November 25.

There's always something going on at HGNO.

It's called, Jam With A Cause.

The roster of musicians and ambience for this event is sure to please the soul.

You are invited to come to our home in the back courtyard and listen to some great music between 5PM and 7PM on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012.

The cause is for HGNO to raise funding for our MusicWorks in Community projects.

Please consider what you can do to help us as we create musical environments for children and youth to build community and relationships that last for a lifetime.

Also, please share this event with someone you might think would enjoy it and have a passion for the cause.

BCB LAUNCHES YOUTH BAND

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE CITY OF BRAMPTON CONCERT BAND IS PROUD TO ANNOUNCE

THE LAUNCH OF AN EXCITING NEW MUSIC OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH

THE BRAMPTON YOUTH CONCERT BAND
DIRECTED BY:
SUSAN BARBER KAHRO

Susan Barber Kahro
The City of Brampton Concert Band is pleased to offer a new music opportunity for Brampton, aimed at supporting our youth and helping them grow in the musical arts, in which they will enrich their musical growth under strong musical leadership, with challenging and wide-ranging music selections, varied performance opportunities and unique learning experiences through special guests and projects.
We are seeking students with some playing experience ideally at the Grade 8, 9 or 10 levels who wish to expand their musical skills and horizons, but are happy to consider any middle or early secondary school students who would like to participate in this new group.
To lead this exciting new band, we are very pleased to announce Susan Barber Kahro as music director.   We are certain she will bring the best out of the young musicians who will take part and give them a lasting and positive experience.  Members will have the opportunity to perform at The Rose Theatre, with the Brampton Concert Band, Gage Park and the Farmer’s Market as well as competing in MusicFest Canada.
Our first rehearsal is planned for Thursday September 20, 2012, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. in the Brampton Concert Band’s music hall located at 55A Queen Street East (old Carnegie Library at Queen Street and Union Street).

For additional information, including how to join and membership fees, please visit our website at bramptonconcertband.com or contact us by email at bycb@bramptonconcertband.com.  You can also visit our Brampton Youth Concert Band Facebook page.
